INTRODUCTION TO VISUAL ARTS (AYS11)

The introduction to contemporary art will examine the connection between modern life and art history. The students will learn about different techniques used by visual artists as well as the history of visual arts. Students will explore Art throughout history beginning with Cave Drawings and concluding with postmodern expressionism.


CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY (AECC)

Chinese calligraphy is an art of brush writing. This course introduces the history, basic scripts, styles, and techniques of Chinese calligraphy. Chinese calligraphy is a hands-on course that teaches students the techniques and methods of brush writing. The words chosen for brush writing practice will match the cultural contents of the lessons.


DESKTOP PUBLISHING/YEARBOOK (TDP1 & TDP2)

This is a year course offered to juniors/seniors. Students will learn to use digital cameras, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign software from CS5. Students are responsible for all aspects of production, including layout and design, photography and writing. The yearbook pages are submitted on CDs to the yearbook publishing company.


DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY (AJS11)

The overall goal of this course is to introduce students to photography. The medium that we will use is the digital SLR camera (DSLR) and Adobe Photoshop. The course will cover the technical aspects of using a digital SLR camera and some basic Photoshop functions. In addition students will have an opportunity to view historically important photographers and to learn the language of critiquing their own and other students work. The school will lend students the SLR cameras needed for the assignments.


DRAWING FOR DESIGN AND PRODUCTION (AD1)

This one semester course will provide students with learning in the area of design and drawing through problem solving experiences. Strategies of design, methods of visual representation and mechanical drawing skills will further student growth in the technology of graphic communication.


MULTIMEDIA (TZS11)

This one semester computer course is especially appealing to students who enjoy creating visual presentations. They will learn to use Adobe CS4 software to create multimedia presentation.

The introduction to music theory will expose students to the fundamentals of music theory and music history. Students will explore music through the ages and the role music has played in world history. The students will create music and discover the roots of popular music and how these musical roots affect their own lives.
